Tonight was my second trip with the pooches to the Canine Cocktails happy hour event at the Hotel Indigo in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. This event is co-sponsored by City Dog San Diego and DOGTV, and is poised to become downtown San Diego’s premier monthly pet event. March’s San Diego dog happy hour coincided with the opening game of the San Diego Padres vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, and brought in a lively crowd of friendly pooches clad in San Diego Padres attire. Where else in San Diego can you let your dogs run amuck 9 floors above the Gaslamp Quarter without a care in the world while you get your happy hour fix? This event attracts San Diego’s finest, well-socialized pooches and their friendly owners. I didn’t see a single skirmish the whole time, just lots of pick-up games of chase and keep-away, oh, and lots and lots of drinking. If you have a dog and live anywhere near the city, you have to come to this event. Take human’s favorite social past-time of going to happy hours and your dogs’ favorite past-time and the dog park, and you get the best of both worlds without having to leave your canine companions at home. It’s the equivalent of happy hour at a dog park; only, you won’t find yourself face down in the grass getting peed on.
